Amedeo Modigliani
1884–1920

Modigliani was born to Jewish parents in Livorno and moved to Paris in 1906. He portrayed friends and artists from the city's international community. His sources included African and Egyptian art, the Italian Renaissance and Cézanne. In his portraits these interests accompanied elongated proportions and simplified facial drawing.
