Caspar David Friedrich

Friedrich trained in Greifswald and Copenhagen before settling in Dresden, where he associated with Romantic scholars and poets. Landscape drawings and sepias first established his reputation. In 1824 he became associate professor of landscape painting at the Dresden Academy.
