Charles Sheeler

Charles Sheeler studied painting in Philadelphia, including with William Merritt Chase. Photography became a source of income around 1910. In 1920 he collaborated with Paul Strand on the film Manhatta. A photographic commission at Ford's plant in 1927 supplied material for later paintings of industrial architecture.
