Jacques Louis David
1748–1825

David trained with Joseph-Marie Vien and won the Prix de Rome in 1774. During the Revolution he served in the Convention, voted for Louis XVI's execution and organized festivals. Imprisoned after Robespierre's fall, he was released in 1795 and later allied himself with Napoleon.
