Konstantin Korovin
1861–1939

Korovin studied under Savrasov and Polenov at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. Alongside paintings, he designed scenery for Savva Mamontov’s Private Opera and the Imperial Theatres. He later lived in Paris.
He painted In a Boat in 1888. Leaves and objects remain carefully described in this early work, while colour relationships, light on clothing and the unusual view from above are already central.
