Mahavihara Master
Active in the early 12th century
This conventional name identifies the painter of a Buddhist palm-leaf manuscript. The museum associates it with a monastery workshop in eastern India. An inscription names its patron, Queen Vihunadevi, but the location and dates of her rule remain unknown. The suggestion that the painter was a monk is also unproven.
