Painting attributed to Bhawani Das

Bhawani Das trained in Mughal miniature painting. In Calcutta he made natural-history studies for Bengal's chief justice, Elijah Impey, and his wife Mary. Courtly skills in fine drawing and colour were applied to the study of animals. These paintings were produced within British colonial patronage.
