Rosa Bonheur
1822–1899

Born in Bordeaux, Bonheur moved to Paris in 1829 and became known for animal painting. The Horse Fair won acclaim at the 1853 Salon. She made a smaller version to support the production of prints, extending its audience through reproduction.
