Andrei Rublev

14th century — before 1430

Rublev was an icon painter and monk. His life dates are approximate. A chronicle entry for 1405 names him among the painters working on the Annunciation Church in the Moscow Kremlin. In 1408 he worked on frescoes in Vladimir.

In the Trinity, Rublev unites three figures through inclined heads, gestures and a rounded arrangement around the table. The icon’s religious meaning is closely related to this composition. Precise identifications of individual angels remain debated.
