Frederic Edwin Church

Humboldt's ideas of ecological interconnectedness helped inspire Church's South American travels. Visits to Ecuador in 1853 and 1857 supplied studies for The Heart of the Andes. He promoted major paintings through exhibitions devoted to a single work.
